CoreLogic Fusion MLS Alert – Emails being blocked by Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, and MSN – 4/11/2014 Update

Anti-SPAM Advisory

IMPORTANT MESSAGE – PLEASE READ

A change to Yahoo’s email DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) policy over the weekend of April 5th has resulted in numerous emails being rejected—an estimated 15%.  Yahoo’s policy change is affecting many email service providers around the world and is not limited to CoreLogic (our MLS vendor).  The policy change rejects mail that purports to originate from Yahoo’s domain but actually originates from an IP address belonging to someone else, such as CoreLogic.  Emails sent from Fusion that use a member’s personal email address (e.g., jsmith@yahoo.com) as the “FROM” email address are likely to be rejected.

While this is a good thing from an anti-spoofing perspective, it raises problems for legitimate mailing lists, like our MLS. Some of the manual and automatic e-mails sent from the MLS are being blocked. If your e-mail is blocked you will receive a message in your e-mail inbox letting you know it was undeliverable. This is not affecting everyone even if you have a Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail account.

Our vendor has submitted a request to Yahoo to have CoreLogic (our MLS vendor) email servers whitelisted so they can bypass this policy.  It is important to understand, however, that services such as Yahoo, Gmail, and Hotmail will continue to adjust their email policies to reduce the number of spoofed emails.  Please refer to the following article explaining the change: http://news.techworld.com/security/3510894/yahoo-email-anti-spoofing-policy-breaks-mailing-lists/.
