REALTORS® Come Together to Build Beds and Strengthen Northwest Ohio Communities

On June 10, 2026, members of Northwest Ohio REALTORS® stepped away from their desks, showings, and closings to come together for a different kind of work: building beds for local children in need.

As part of REALTOR® Volunteer Days, a nationwide initiative that highlights the real estate profession’s commitment to community service, 112 real estate agents, affiliates, and industry partners volunteered with Let’s Build Beds to help ensure more children in Northwest Ohio have a safe and comfortable place to sleep. Volunteers built 40 beds that will be delivered to children who currently do not have a bed of their own.

Let’s Build Beds is a nonprofit dedicated to providing beds for children in need throughout the region. The organization’s mission is simple but impactful: no child should have to sleep on the floor.

In addition to constructing beds, Northwest Ohio REALTORS® organized a donation drive to collect new pillows, blankets, and sheet sets. These donations help ensure each child receives not only a bed, but a complete sleeping space that offers comfort, dignity, and a better night’s rest.

“Across the country, 68% of all REALTORS® volunteer monthly in their community. Giving back is part of who we are as both people and as professionals,” said Shalonda Thurmond, President of Northwest Ohio REALTORS®. “As REALTORS®, we understand the importance of home, and a bed is one of its most basic, essential elements. No child should have to sleep on the floor.”

While REALTORS® are best known for helping people buy and sell homes, events like this demonstrate their broader commitment to building stronger communities. The bed build also created a unique opportunity for professionals from competing brokerages across Northwest Ohio to work side-by-side toward a common goal.

The impact of the day extends far beyond the 40 beds that were built. It serves as a reminder that when local organizations, businesses, and volunteers come together, meaningful change can happen for families throughout our region.
